Abstract
- The article focuses on the treatment for Crohn's disease in Great Britain. Therapies of proven efficacy include systemic corticosteroids, budesonide and antibodies against tumor necrosis factor α infliximab. The mucosal inflammation of established Crohn's disease is dominated by CD4-positive T lymphocytes with a type 1 helper phenotype, characterize by the production of interferon-y and TNF-α. The process involves extravasation of leucocytes from the blood-stream into the tissues of the bowel.
