Abstract

The article presents a research paper on the new managerialism in the higher education in Great Britain. It examines the applicability of certain new theories regarding the existence of new managerialism in the public sector institutions and management strategies in the universities in the country. The term 'new managerialism' refers to the adoption of technologies, management practices and values in the private business sector by public sector organizations. The paper analyzes the writings of the thinkers John Clarke and Janet Newman. Their writings on organizational forms, technologies and narratives under new managerialist regimes are specially taken into consideration. Another area is their discussion on the tensions between managing cultures and performances in organizations operating under new managerial regimes. The author analyzes these theoretical aspects while applying it to two different instances of organizational regimes and management practices in universities. The research shows that the attempt to change organizational cultures are seen uneven.
