Abstract

This article reports that U.S. fastfood chain Taco Bell has considered transforming the interior design of its units as of July 1999. The company is testing a unit design with natural woods, stone counters, and wrought-iron touches that may be presented to franchisees by yearend. The idea is to help the 7,000-unit chain shed its fast-food image and entice a wider audience than its core base of young males with a passion for value-price tacos. The look is part of an initiative to upgrade the chain. The bell-shaped logo of Taco Bell will stay, but other changes include menu boards for inside and at the drive-through window with photographs of combination meals.
