Abstract

The article reports on steps campuses are taking to be more environmentally friendly. 110 colleges across the country are building structures that meet high energy efficiency standards. Carnegie Mellon has a hall with a living roof and the first green dormitory in the country. Portland State University also has a green dorm that creates little waste. The environmentally friendly living option at the University of South Carolina was so popular, students were required to write an essay to get in.
