This article describes lifecycle or target retirement mutual funds and their increasing popularity. Many 401(k) plans offer lifecycle funds and individuals can also buy them from no-load companies like Vanguard, T. Rowe Price, Fidelity, and American Century. Each lifecycle fund has a target year in its name, such as 2015 or 2030. You pick a fund named for a year that's close to the year you'll turn 65. Initially the fund is invested in U.S. and international stock funds.
