Abstract

Work Addiction is accepted as a legitimate and sanctioned phenomenon in our culture. Et is also supported, defended, protected, and perpetuated as a positive force in society despite its harmful effect on individuals and the society in which they live. It shares with other addictions the characteristics of being primary, chronic, progressive, fatal, and with other addictions, has early, middle, and late stages of development. While it is relatively simple to diagnose, it is extremely difficult to treat because of the strong personal and societal denial that aids and abets it. All professions and vocations experience it. The focus of this article will he on how this particular addiction effects the life of the addict and those around him/her and how recovery can bring about a new, healthy life style.
