Abstract
- The article looks at how the country of Jordan gave rise to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and other Islamist jihadis involved in the Iraqi insurgency. The author explains Salafism, which is a type of Islam which focuses on purity, and describes its role in shaping Zarqawi's views. The author also explores the role of Jordanian prisons in spreading ideology and gaining members, the differences between Osama bin Laden and Zarqawi, and how the Iraqi insurgency began after the United States invaded Iraq.
