Abstract

The article discusses the possibility of incorporating individualism and behaviorism in the education of handicapped children. The authors have discovered that using etiological labels to establish homogeneity is less efficient than is expected. The main objective of the authors in the study is to develop and deliver individualized instruction for handicapped children. It is common in programs for teachers of behaviorally disturbed children to include coursework or experiences designed to heighten teachers' understanding of their own emotional behavior. Through such techniques as studying group interaction and trying to understand the relationships between speech behavior in group discussion and underlying feelings, the authors attempt to develop a concept which helps individuals understand disturbed children.
