Abstract

The article presents information on an retrospective of works of artist Elizabeth Murray which has been put up by Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The exhibition highlights Murray as one of the great painters of contemporary times, an artist who is a synthesizer and innovator of the many forms of modernist painting while at the same time developing and expanding imagistic themes of private domestic anxiety and pleasure. The exhibition is also proof that her animating powers are rooted in a sourced in a deep understanding of the Minimalist perception of the painting as an image-object or image-form that is enacted within and against a spatial field.
