The heyday for dog portraits was from about 1860 to 1920. Then the realm of dog breeding itself, which had stimulated the taste for pet portraits, was bitten by the depression and other world woes. Works of William Secord, eponym of a New York gallery represents a number of contemporary pet portraitists in addition to showing works by outstanding English artists of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
