Abstract

The article focuses on the new data analysis system implemented by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in an effort to deter organized crime in California. Significantly, the system will gather, track, analyze and distribute intelligence information. Furthermore, the completed package will allow several counter-terrorist bureau officers to search intelligence databases simultaneously. The 911 Commission have criticized the failure of the system to connect the pieces of information together. The author presented instances on how the LAPD can help prevent terrorism. Furthermore, systems that the LAPD is installing will also become critical in creating regional systems for sharing information among law enforcement agencies. Such tools would allow users who may not be sure where the data is housed to quickly search multiple databases simultaneously.
