Abstract
- The article discusses an outcomes study concerning extremely low-birth-weight infants (ELBW) in Ontario and their transition from adolescence to young adulthood. The prospective and longitudinal study was designed to compare ELBW and normal birthweight (NBW) populations, including sociodemographic characteristics. The main outcome measures were educational achievement, student or worker role, independent living, marriage, and parenthood. The results show that a majority of former ELBW infants became functional adults.
