Abstract

This article discusses Indian artist, Tyeb Mehta, who at 80 years-old is breaking auction records. Mehta lives in Mumbai, a metropolitan area of India. His painting "Mahisasura" became the first work by an Indian painter to fetch over one million dollars at auction. There has been a surge of interest in the market for Indian art. While he enjoys the recognition, he feels finds the surge in art prices "meaningless."
