Abstract

The article presents information on the nonprofit organization Rainforest Action Network (RAN) and its efforts to protect the environment. The organization was founded by Randy Hayes in 1984. According to Hayes, the methodology of their campaigns is founded on the Burger King Boycott of 1986. During this campaign, RAN contacted Burger King and claimed that the beef they were importing are responsible for the destruction of the rainforest. They conducted a number of demonstrations before Burger King withdrew its contract for the rainforest beef. Later, RAN began their Global Finance Campaign in order to be more effective. Other campaigns conducted by RAN are mentioned. INSET: CAMPAIGN METHODOLOGY.
