Abstract
- The article presents a diary of a week in the life of the author, who comments on the changes in the publishing industry, especially in terms of the increased importance of marketing and sales. He notes that in the 19th century, people were protesting the power of circulating libraries in dictating literary taste. He deplores the incivility of London crowds and his own irritation at them. A history of the Captain Scott Invitation XI, in which he participated, makes him feel old.
