Abstract

The article presents a lesson plan designed to analyze the debate about national identity and nationalism in the United States during the 1930s. The plan also explored how songs during the period reflected the politics and values of the era. According to the author, the lesson plan is an ideal exercise for history students and teachers. It could help them understand the reasons why the definition for the terms America and American vary by time and space and what songs depict the idea of nationalism in the country.
