This section presents an anecdote involving convoy escort commanders in ships. During the early days of the war, when most escort ships did not have either radar or range finders, they were frequently driven to the verge of distraction by escorts that wander far beyond their distances from the ships in the convoys. Messages were sent out asking that the required distances be maintained.
