Abstract

This paper presents some new results on the emission of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) during plastic deformation, crack initiation and propagation, and fracture of uncoated and tin–coated 0.15% carbon steel sheets. Intermittent EMR emissions have been observed even at stationary loading, which we term as secondary EMR emissions. These results are expected to provide an insight into the micro-mechanism of dislocation relaxation dynamics in metallic materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
