Abstract
- This article discusses a growing trend by consumer-products and -services companies such as Office Depot, J. Crew, Wyndham Hotels, and Sears Holdings to outsource call-center work to people working at home in the U.S. Although such jobs usually come with no benefits and can be stressful and repetitive, they are a boon to people who stay at home caring for someone. Most home-based agents have college degrees and some management experience. Most workers must equip themselves with a computer, a phone line, and Internet access and the income is usually limited.
