Abstract
- This article states that according to Bernadette McCreight, a lecturer in the School of Sociology and Applied Social Studies at the University of Ulster, Ireland, emotion should be seen as a resource rather than a weakness for nurses in gynaecology units. She studied the experiences of miscarriage and stillbirth among parents who attended pregnancy loss self-help groups. She conducted interviews with nurses and midwives in ten hospitals in Northern Ireland. Midwives and nurses suffer grief and fear when dealing with the loss of a baby and may find it difficult to cope with their emotional distress.
