Abstract

The article reports on the arraignment of David Maldanado, who described the deaths of his two boys in his Yonkers apartment as an accident that was set in motion by a drug addiction gone out of control. Elijaha, nearly three, and David Jr., 20 months, were found in blistering hot water. The autopsy said they had died of second-and third-degree burns. Maldonado was charged with two counts of manslaughter while the mother, Luz Arroyo, was charged with criminally negligent homicide. Both pleaded not guilty. County records and interviews with officials depict a troubled family with a history of child neglect.
