Abstract

Abstract: We describe the situation of international adoption in France. International adoption has now become more important than national adoption. Family counselling must start before adoption trying to track risk situations in order to discourage those adoptions. Adopted children may have specific diseases at their arrival. Families and children should be accompanied for several years. The difficulties related to adoption seem to be real and more frequent than for biological children. Adoption is definitely not an “illness”, but this particular filiation may be associated with organic and psychological illnesses, which should benefit from adapted attention. It would be useful for every big city to have such a consultation, with paediatrician and psychological attention, with the occasional help of a lawyer. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
