Abstract

The article examines why schizophrenics tend to be less healthy than other people and offers suggestions on how mental health personnel can help. It is observed that people diagnosed with schizophrenia tend to come from the lower social classes and are more likely to misuse substances. Moreover, anti-psychotic drugs have potentially harmful side effects. Both primary and secondary interventions can be employed by health professionals to improve the health and life expectancy of schizophrenics.
