Abstract
- The article reports that the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate are on a collision course with competing tax bills that would provide several tax breaks of interest to higher-education institutions on tuition and research, as well as incentives designed to encourage charitable giving. The Senate was poised to approve its version of the legislation, S 2020, late last week. The House Ways and Means Committee passed its tax-cut bill, HR 4297, last week, but the full House is not expected to take up the measure until December, after the chamber debates separate legislation to cut spending.
