Abstract

The article focuses on the consideration being made by the U.S. Congress on the imposition of sales tax to finance war in 1942. Several organizations opposed the planned sales tax, including the National Association of Manufacturers. A study from the National Resources Planning Board revealed the consumption of lower and middle class families. Lowest income workers will be strongly impacted by the proposed sales tax.
