Abstract: This article focuses on the effects of digitization on rare collections of books. Columbia University librarian James G. Neal claims that the digital age will be a new golden age of special collections due to the advent of digital databases for contemporary resources. A Columbia initiative called the Columbia University Libraries Digital Program aims to bring together librarians, faculty and technicians to create cutting-edge digital representations and research tools.
