Abstract
- Raises the question of whether or not the human capacity for mathematical intuition depends on linguistic competence or on visuo-spatial representations. Details of behavioral and brain-imaging experiments; How exact mathematics is acquired in a language-specific format; Indications that approximate mathematics has language independence, which recruits bilateral areas of the parietal lobes involved in visuo-spatial processing.
