This article informs that Boeing Co.'s drive toward modularity in the Boeing 787 aircraft has arrived in the cabin with its selection of Thales as the first recommended supplier of an inflight entertainment system in a passenger cabin designed from scratch to be fully wireless. Boeing Vice President Mike Bair, general manager of the 787 program, says the wireless IFE network i-8000 will afford an appreciable savings in installation weight and cost, and cut the time it takes airlines to reconfigure aircraft "from hours to minutes."
