Abstract

The present work was impelled by the strategic policy of the Ministry of the Sugar Industry as to the diversification of the Cuban sugar industry, aimed at the searching of strategies allowing the obtaining of positive increases in this kind of industry. This applies mainly to the increase of the energetic production, even with the shortcoming of reduction of sugar production. A preliminary statistical study is made in order to determine the influence that the undesirable substances exert upon some process variables. Besides, a theoretical economic evaluation of the possibilities and disadvantages that the milling of integral cane could provoke was made. The most considerable results resided in the statistical analysis of correlation. It was demonstrated that the variations of undesirable substances are not always accompanied by increases of losses, because other operational variables can diminish the negative effects. It was also demonstrated the possible feasibility of milling integral cane, due to the fact that the advantages of savings and energetic production are bigger than the estimated sugar losses.
