Abstract

Examines the in vivo protective effect of astaxanthin carotenoid isolated from the Xantophyllomyces dendrorhous mutant against ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury in rats. Oral administration of astaxanthin; Inhibition of the elevation of lipid peroxide level in gastric mucosa; Increase in the activities of radical scavenging enzymes; Level of disappearance of acute gastric mucosal lesion induced by ethanol after pretreatment with astaxanthin.
