Abstract

sweet potato: 'Nemañete', 'Jonathan', 'Jewel', 'RCB 3047-H' and 'RCB 39-IF' at the UNALM Plant Physiology Laboratory. The plants were analyzed under short day conditions of 10 and 11 hours obtained artificially by covering the plants from 4 pm to 7 pm and from 5 pm to 7 pm respectively; under a control treatment of 12,5 hours (spring-summer days and nights), and under an artificial 14,5 hours treatment obtained by breaking the night into two by a lightning period from 11 pm to 1 am. From the five genotypes only four of them flowered ('Nemañete', 'Jonathan', 'RCB 3047-H' and 'RCB 39-IF'). The best results were obtained under short conditions, mainly of 11 hours. The earliest genotype was 'Nemañete'. The flowering periods were different among genotypes and had no relation to the number of flowers. Reservant roots were favored under short day conditions of 10 hours for the 'RCB 39-IF' genotype (reduced flowering) and for the 'Jewel' genotype (lack of flowering). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
