Abstract

This article presents abstracts of various papers related to beef cattle and its pastures and forage plants, that were presented during the symposium held on July 26, 2005, Cincinnati, Ohio, which was organized by the American Dairy Science Association, the American Society of Animal Science and the Canadian Society of Animal Science. One of the papers presented is "Fatty Acid Composition in Subcutaneous and Intramuscular Fat of Steers Grazing Pasture Supplemented With Corn Oil," by E. Pavan and S. Duckett. To evaluate the effect of increasing corn oil supplementation of grazing steers on fatty acid composition, subcutaneous and intramuscular samples were taken from the left side of the carcass of 18 steers. Another paper discussed is "Coastal, Russell, and Tifton 85 Bermudagrass Hay and Supplement Intake and Digestion by Steers," by G.M. Hill, G.J. Andrae, B.C. Hand and B.G. Mullinix. Coastal , Tifton 85 and Russell bermudagrass hays harvested at 5-wk maturity were fed without or with a supplement to steers to determine DM1 and digestibility.
