Abstract

This article presents abstracts of various papers related to additives, nutrient contents and quality of forage plants and pasture, that were presented during the symposium held on July 26, 2005, Cincinnati, Ohio, which was organized by the American Dairy Science Association, the American Society of Animal Science and the Canadian Society of Animal Science. One of the papers presented is "Effect of Adding Enzyme on Fermentation Quality and Nutritive Value of Corn Stover Silage," by J.-M. Lv, W.-L. Hu and J.-X. Liu. This experiment was carried out to assess the effect of adding enzyme on fermentation quality and nutritive value of corn stover silage. About 120 kg corn stover was used as materials. The result showed that while all corn stover silages were of good quality with low pH, low ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) and high lactic acid content, enzyme addition reduced the NDF content, pH value and the ratio of NH3-N to the total nitrogen, meanwhile increased the concentration of lactic acid as well as the total organic acid. Another paper discussed is "Evaluation of Yield and Nutritive Value of Hairy indigo in Venezuela," by Omar Araujo-Febres. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of cutting age on nutritive value of Hairy indigo.
