Abstract: The article focuses on self-portraiture as a means of introspection and isolation, drawing parallels between Rembrandt's late self-portraits and Leos Carax's autobiographical film It's Not Me . Topics include Carax's history of self-referential filmmaking, his use of intertextuality and political themes in It's Not Me , and the recurring motif of flawed or oppressive father figures throughout his body of work.
