Abstract

This study aims to explain the reasons behind the recent energy problems, contradictions, and divergences among the members of the European Union (EU), the global leader of the green energy transition and green norms. The interruption of energy supply in Europe due to geopolitical tensions and conflicts, and the contradictions and problems related to the green energy transition process erode and change the green norms of EU energy policy and make economic interest-oriented approaches visible. EU energy policy, which is based on green transformation planning without undermining production and competitiveness by ensuring security of supply within the framework of balanced relations with Russia, is now facing a paradigmatic shift in which security of supply is jeopardized, and problems related to renewable energy are decisive. The article argues that this paradigm shift underlies the contradictions in the construction of the EU's common energy policy and the divisions among members on fossil fuels and nuclear energy. Hence, it argues that EU energy policy is no longer as green as it seems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
