Abstract

Abstract: The trenchs made in 1993 outcropped a section of 10.4 m of loess across the fossiliferous levels of the Saint-Vallier mammal locality. This section was regularly sampled on 16 horizons. Paleomagnetic analyses showed the magnetite as the main magnetic carrier in these sediments, although some contribution of the hematite (more in hardened loess than in soils) is also recorded. The primary component of magnetization is reverse in all samples. This reverse polarity is tentatively correlated with Chron C2r (1,95 et 2,58 Ma) based on the biostratigraphic age of the site.
