Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present three case studies demonstrating several interesting pathologies of the sacroiliac joints (SIJ) that may be encountered in everyday clinical practice. As the case studies illustrate, these pathologies are not always considered initially, and diagnosis often requires comprehensive radiological and laboratory investigations. Given the location of the SIJ and the load placed upon them, degenerative joint disease is by far the most common pathology, particularly in older individuals. Other diagnoses are rare. In contrast, degenerative changes are unlikely in younger patients, and in the case of sacroiliac joint pain, thorough examination is essential to identify and promptly initiate appropriate treatment for any underlying pathology.
