Abstract
- Diabetes can trigger damage to the male reproductive system and is one of the factors causing infertility in men. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of Hordeum vulgare on spermatogenesis in diabetic rats. This study used a True Experimental Pretest and Posttest Control Group Design research design. The rat samples were male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus), weighing around 200 grams, and around 2 months old. The independent variable in this study was Hordeum vulgare and the dependent variables were sperm motility and histopathological features of the rat testes. The data will be processed using Kruskal Wallis test with SPSS. The results showed that there was no significant difference in spermatogenesis of rats between groups. The effect of Hordeum vulgare on the average Johnsen's score and histopathological picture of diabetic rat testes showed that the diabetic rat group fed with Hordeum vulgare had many spermatozoa but irregular germinal epithelium characterized by exfoliation of the lumen compared to the negative control group which had lower score dan greater damage on histopathology.
