Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the concepts and misconceptions that the prospective Turkish teachers studying in Süleyman Demirel University, Faculty of Education, Department of Turkish Education, associate with the words 'national culture, literature, homeland, flag' and to reveal their cognitive structures in this regard. As a method in the research, phenomenology pattern, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group of the research consists of 153 students. Concept networks formed with certain cut-off points in the word association test and frequency-percentage tables were used to analyze the data. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that the teacher candidates had sufficient knowledge about the given concepts. It has been found that there are no misconceptions about the concepts presented to them, but the words that the concepts of national culture, homeland, flag and literature evoke in them are both few in quantity and words that repeat each other between these concepts. In the light of these findings, it is thought that it is important to develop teacher candidates with a deeper and broader knowledge of these concepts. Considering the importance of these concepts and their content, it is suggested that studies on these concepts be integrated into the program and courses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
