Abstract

This study aims to analyze the psychosocial and socio-emotional processes of nursing students before and during confinement due to Covid-19, as a result of the Healthy Distance Initiative implemented by the Secretaría de Salud (Ministry of Health) in Mexico. The methodology used was a descriptive, quantitative, and cross-sectional study which involved an online questionnaire completed by a sample of 375 nursing students. The results of the study are presented, indicating a decrease in happiness by 52%, calmness by 34.40%, and confidence by 34.13%. Conversely, uncertainty increased by 32.80%, anguish by 27.46%, despair by 26.13%, and fear by 21.60%. These results suggest a significant shift in emotional states. In conclusion, this research focuses on nursing students who are considered a pluri-vulnerable population due to their high risk of psychosocial and emotional challenges. These challenges are more prevalent compared to other higher education students, and are a result of social inequality factors such as age, gender, career, territory, and socioeconomic condition.
