Abstract
- The subject of this study is related to the social change processes of the Abdal communities living in Antalya after the transition from nomadic life to settled life. In this qualitative research with ethnography (cultural analysis) research pattern, it is aimed to understand and interpret the daily lives, social behaviors and attitudes of the Abdals living in Antalya. How has the transition from nomadic life to a settled life led to a change in the social lives of the Abdals? This question constitutes the basic problem of the study. In the research, social reality has been searched for in the lifestyle of individuals and in the worlds of meaning. The data collection methods of the research are in-depth interviews, observations and document review. The data collected with these tools were analyzed in a descriptive manner and interpreted in a sociological context. In this research design, which is based on the understanding and interpretive paradigm in general, the aim is to reach the social reality, to be able to analyze the daily life practices, nature, norms and sociological structures of the investigated community. In this study, the aim is to understand and interpret the changes that occurred in the social lives of the Abdal community living in the Serik, Manavgat, Finike and Muratpasa districts of Antalya after the transition from nomadic life to a settled life with the ethnography (cultural analysis) pattern. The Abdals are a community with a rich sociological structure with beliefs, professional activities, lifestyles and cultural characteristics. The Abdals, who are estimated to have migrated from Khorasan, which is located on the territory of Iran today, to the Anatolia, are a community with Bektashism beliefs. Abdals can be confused with Gypsies due to their physical appearance, lifestyle and cultural characteristics' similarities. As a result, it is seen that the Abdals identify themselves as Turkish, Bektashi Muslims. It is found that the Abdals live in a total of nine neighborhoods, including three in Serik, four in Manavgat, one in Muratpasa and one in Finike. In addition, the change in lifestyle has caused a number of changes and transformations in the institutions of the Abdals such as family, religion, marriage and the economy. Abdals started to be employed in different professional branches such as subcontracting, small craftsmanship, real estate agency, taxi driving, temporary agricultural labor, greenhouse and municipal labor. The ethics committee certificate required for the field research was obtained and the interviews were conducted in Antalya between June 2022 and February 2023. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
