Abstract
- The article "State, strength, and market. Cartagena in the 17th century" by Pablo Sierra Fáfila reviews Julián B. Ruiz Rivera's book on research in Cartagena in the 17th century. The importance of society, economy, and the political-defensive structure in the city during that time is highlighted. Aspects such as the presence of differentiated groups, commercial influence, and the role of intermediaries in the transit of slaves are mentioned. Additionally, the complexity of power relations between the Cabildo and the governors is addressed, as well as the challenges faced by the city in its role as a defensive bastion.
