Abstract
- This study aims to analyze the “Armorique Mythos”, which Raymond Roussel, one of the representatives of French literature, includes in his work Locus Solus, in the context of mythic features. At this point, we will proceed from Alan Goldman’s “levels of the text”. Thereby, based on the information obtained from the “narrow world” of the mythos, it will be tried to reach its “wide world”. Therefore, the aim is not to create a new mythos but to emphasize the richness of the mythos. This study, in which the content analysis technique and interpretative understanding sociological approach are used based on the literature review, is limited to the “Armorique Mythos” in Locus Solus. However, the language games called metagrams mentioned by Roussel in his work How I Wrote Certain of My Books are bracketed. The “Armorique Mythos” is written in accordance with mythic characteristics. There may be different interpretations of a text based on its narrow meaning other than its commonly accepted meanings. In this mythos, which we think contains symbolic narratives in places, it was found that Raymond Roussel included the coexistence of binary opposites, used a moon with a meaning in the background, certain colors and numbers, and with all these, the author acted with the effects of his tradition while creating his product.
