Abstract

Comparative literature is an attempt to reveal the similar and different aspects of works from different countries and to compare and examine two or more works that have similar themes, events or concepts from the same country. Comparative reading can be applied to simultaneous works or to works published at different times. In the study, the concept of power and the struggles of female characters for power in William Shakespeare's play Macbeth and Ahmet Turan Oflazoğlu's play IV. Murat were tried to be read comparatively. It can be said that the concept of power has a place in almost every field of literature. The concept of power sometimes manifests itself as a administration and sometimes as a struggle to obtain the administration. The focus is on the similarities between Lady Macbeth and Kösem Sultan in the context of women and power. The plots of the plays, the internal crises of the characters, the dark image of the female characters and the endings of the characters are emphasized. In both plays, physical and mental battles for power are mentioned. In addition, it has been observed that the characters who entered into an all-out struggle for power died because they could no longer withstand the psychological crises. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
