Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of emotional illness among military police officers in a city of Minas Gerais state (Brazil), using a measure that considers the simultaneous presence of symptoms of depression and burnout, and to investigate the factors associated with this disease. Participants were 128 police officers, who completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale, the Burnout Syndrome Assessment Inventory, and the Resilience Scale. Descriptive. Bivariate and logistic regression analyses were performed. The results identified emotional illness in 14.80% of the sample evaluated. Furthermore, they showed that stress, dissatisfaction with work, worse perception of mental health, and lower level of resilience were factors associated with the presence of illness. It is important to consider the emotional health of police officers and their perception of work so that more effective interventions can be implemented with these professionals.
