Abstract

Translation abstract <bold>Optimization of welded cover plates under fatigue loading</bold>Welded cover plates are a frequently used detail in bridge and mechanical engineering, that is used for local cross‐section reinforcement and thus contributes to the design of more economical structures. However, this notch detail shows a poor fatigue behaviour and is therefore usually decisive for fatigue design. As part of the FOSTA P 1413 research project, numerical and experimental investigations were carried out on various cover plate shapes and designs. Based on these results, an optimised design was developed regarding fatigue behaviour and manufacturing efforts. The main results of these investigations and the recommendations derived from these results with regard to design and fabrication are presented in this article. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
