Huantong Zhixie soft capsules, consisting of four kinds of traditional Chinese medicines: Atractylodes Macrocephala Koidz, Paeoniae Radix Alba, Citrus Reticulata and Saposhnikoviae Radix, possesses the effects of soothing the liver, nourishing the spleen, relieving pain, and stopping diarrhea. It is widely used in the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). Relevant studies showed that the clinical symptoms of IBS-D could be improved by using Huantong Zhixie soft capsules alone, combined with other Chinese and Western medicine and non-drug therapy, and the efficacy was significant. In order to better guide the safe and effective use of Huantong Zhixie soft capsules for primary physicians and guide the rational use of clinical drugs, Expert Consensus on Huantong Zhixie Soft Capsules in the Treatment of Diarrhoeal-predominant irritable bowel syndrome in Primary Care was jointly drafted by relevant experts in related fields from Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University and Clinical Research on Traditional Chinese Medicine Branch of China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care. Based on the questionnaire survey and literature review of clinical experts, the consensus adopts the GRADE system and fully combined with expert experience to form recommendations or consensus recommendations through the Nominal Group Technique. This consensus clarifies the indications, key points of diagnosis and treatment, usage and dosage, course of treatment, drug combination, and safety of Huantong Zhixie soft capsules in the treatment of IBS-D, which is suitable for Chinese clinicians, Western clinicians, general clinicians and clinical pharmacists in hospitals of various levels.
