Abstract

The article discusses the benefits of using digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) in breast cancer screening, particularly for women with dense breasts. The TOSYMA trial showed that DBT, when combined with synthetic mammography (SM), led to a significant increase in invasive cancer detection rates, especially in women with extremely dense breasts. The study also highlighted the importance of personalized screening strategies, such as DBT, ultrasound, MRI, and contrast-enhanced mammography, for women with dense breasts. Overall, the findings suggest that DBT could replace digital mammography as a stand-alone screening method for women with extremely dense breasts, with careful consideration of the associated radiation dose increase.
