Abstract
- In this article, I approach the appropriation and resignification of downtown Plano Piloto de Brasília by transvestites and gays from the presence and social dynamics established in the center of the capital of Brazil: Central Bus Station of Plano Piloto de Brasília, Setor de Diversões Sul (SCS), known as CONIC, and Setor Comercial Sul (SCS). For this analysis, I will present three episodes that mark the presence of these groups in these locations, both published in the Correio Braziliense between 1970 and 1985. They collaborate with the understanding of negative representations (artificially created) about gays and transvestites, which stigmatize their existences, territories and authorize the multiple violence against these people. This reflection will use the following theories as a lens: “practices of space or spaces practiced” (Michel de Certeau); “itinerant territorialities” (Néstor Perlongher), and “stigma and deviant behavior” (Gilberto Velho).
