Abstract
- • ZrCuAlNb metallic glass composite is in-situ alloyed using laser additive manufacturing. • A blend of elemental powders is used to prepare the ZrCuAlNb precursor. • Various processing parameters and multiple laser remelting cycles are applied. This study investigates the feasibility of synthesizing a ZrCuAlNb bulk metallic glass composite through in-situ alloying of pure elemental powder blend using powder-fed laser-directed energy deposition. The process parameters are carefully optimized and multiple laser remelting is applied to address the chemical inhomogeneity and elemental micro-segregation. A detailed microstructural examination confirms the successful discovery and development of an amorphous-crystalline composite structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
